Luncheon of the Boating Party by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
‘Luncheon of the Boating Party’ is a painting by French impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Included in the Seventh Impressionist Exhibition in 1882, it was identified as the best painting in the show by three critics.
The feeling you get from looking at the painting reflects an era where Parisians focused together for good food, great company, and fine accommodation. The painting captures an idyllic atmosphere as Renoir’s friends share food, wine, and conversation on a balcony overlooking the Seine at the Maison Fournaise restaurant in Chatou.
Many visitors to our b&b remark about the similarities to the mural on the wall in our dining room painted by artist L. Davies in 2003, and the original painting by Renoir of Luncheon of the Boating Party.
